Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon believes the Bianconeri are firm favourites to retain their Serie A title, despite strong performances this season from Napoli.

The southern Italian side have kept pace with Juventus at the top of the table and, at present, both clubs have 19 points, having won six and drawn one of their seven games so far.

relatedNewsStoryThe situation has been set up perfectly for the Serie A games after the international break, when Juventus host Napoli in Turin. And the fact that Napoli do not have Champions League football to concentrate on has been widely seen as something in their favour.

The match may be ten days away, but Buffon has already cut a confidence figure ahead of the Azzurri’s visit.

"Juventus are strong", stressed the goalkeeper.

"It is true that Napoli do not play in the Champions League, but we are still the favourites [to win the title]", he added.

However, Buffon cautioned about thinking that the outcome of the match will go a long way towards deciding the eventual champions.

"This game will not be decisive", he said.

"It is still early days in Serie A."
