Germany coach Joachim Low has saluted his side’s comfortable 6-1 2014 World Cup qualification victory over the Republic of Ireland last night.
Germany took the lead through Marco Reus in the 32nd minute, before the Borussia Dortmund man added a second five minutes before the break to send his side in 2-0 ahead.
relatedNewsStoryIn the second period, Germany were even more supreme.
First Mesut Ozil converted from the penalty spot (55th minute), then Miroslav Klose got in on the act (58th minute) and finally a Toni Kroos brace (61st and 83rd minutes) made the match a comprehensive thrashing.
Ireland did score a consolation, as substitute Andy Keogh found the back of the net in injury time – but the result was clear and Germany had eased to victory.
For Low, it had been a very good night’s work and one to feel pleased with.
"Our victory, with this scoreline, was thoroughly deserved", said Low after the match.
"We were able to find the right balance between quick attacking play and controlling the ball", he added.
And the Germany boss was also happy to have only conceded one goal, at a stage in the game where it did not really matter.
"Our defence was much better than what we have seen in previous successful matches", he added.
Germany can now look forward to entertaining Sweden on Tuesday evening, while Ireland will hope to pick themselves up with a relatively straightforward looking trip to the Faroe Islands.
