Jose Mourinho has revealed it would be difficult for Real Madrid to launch a swoop for Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao.

The Colombian hitman has started the season in fine form, underlining his brilliance on the European stage by scoring a hat-trick as Diego Simeone’s men thrashed Chelsea 4-1 in the UEFA Super Cup.

relatedNewsStoryAnd the story is the same in La Liga, where Falcao’s eight goals in six games have helped Atletico to keep pace with Barcelona at the top of the table.

Falcao’s superb performances have given rise to talk of a move though and Atletico director Gil Marin admitted that if any club were to activate his release clause of €60M, the Spanish side’s debt issue would be solved at a stroke.

Real Madrid are one of this teams to have been linked with a bid and the player’s father revealed recently that as a child Falcao dreamed of pulling on the famous white shirt.

But for Mourinho, given that the 26-year-old plays for the club’s local rivals, doing a deal is extremely difficult, just as was the case with Sergio Aguero, who moved to Manchester City from Atletico last summer.

"Falcao is a taboo subject", Mourinho told A Bola TV.

"He is a key player and a fundamental part of our rivals, just as Aguero was before him.

"There currently exists a kind of non-aggression pact between Real and Atletico."

It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will try to overcome the obstacles in their path and move for Falcao, but selling the striker to their fierce rivals is surely something Atletico Madrid would not want to do unless absolutely necessary.
