Tottenham Hotspur boss Andre Villas-Boas believes beating Chelsea tomorrow is vital for his side to claw their way closer to the Premier League summit.
Villas-Boas is set to come face to face with the club that sacked him last season when Spurs meet the Blues at White Hart Lane, but taking care of business is very much on the Portuguese’s mind, rather than personal emotions.
relatedNewsStoryAnd, as Chelsea are league leaders, getting closer to them by putting them to the sword is Villas-Boas’ objective.
"It is important to win and get closer to the top, and show improvement and keep the flow, like we had before the [international] break", he told Spurs’ Twitter feed.
The Portuguese also explained the team will be counting upon fierce backing from the club’s fans, which he is sure they will have given the atmosphere around the game.
"You can see the buzz around the ground, everyone looks forward to it.
"It will be extremely hard and we are ready to fight.
"Our stadium is a special place to play when the fans are behind us.
"If the fans put on a show, the lads, I am sure, will respond."
With the exception of Chelsea’s 5-1 destruction of Spurs in the FA Cup last season, games between the two clubs have been remarkably tight in recent years.
Indeed, the winning margin for either team has not been more than one goal since 2009.
