Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has reassured the club’s supporters that his team are working overtime to put deals in place for the January transfer window.
The Reds’ activity in the summer window has been severely criticised, with in particular Rodgers’ decision to sanction a loan move to West Ham for Andy Carroll, before signing a replacement, coming under the microscope.
relatedNewsStorySince then, Italian hitman Fabio Borini has been ruled out for three months through injury, but even before the former Roma man fractured a bone in his foot, Rodgers was vowing to strengthen in the winter window; Borini’s injury only intensifies that desire.
And the Northern Irishman has admitted that he is gearing up for a busy window, while stressing that he will have to operate within a budget.
"Everyone sees that we need to add that goal threat to the team", Rodgers told his club’s official site.
"It will always be the case that I’ll be able to bring in the players of my choice. Obviously there’ll be money available to do that in January.
"The scouting team are out there now compiling lists and looking at targets that we can hopefully bring in.
"If they are affordable and available then hopefully we can bring in that support that can help the group.
"I’m confident of that. There will be one or two of our scouting network, along with myself, who will be looking at players.
"Whichever one of those players out of that group I want to go for, then we’ll do that."
Liverpool have been linked with a number of striking targets, including Athletic Bilbao contract rebel Fernando Llorente, Newcastle United hitman Demba Ba, Aston Villa forward Darren Bent and Chelsea youngster Daniel Sturridge.
However, with other clubs knowing that Liverpool are desperate to strengthen, Rodgers may be forced to pay top dollar in the winter window.
