Marseille coach Elie Baup has ruled out any chance of striker Loic Remy being sold in the January transfer window, insisting that as far as he is concerned the speedy goal-getter is at the Stade Velodrome for the entire campaign.
Remy has been linked with several clubs in recent months, including Champions League winners Chelsea and fellow English outfit Tottenham Hotspur.
There seems little doubt that if Marseille signalled a willingness to cash in on the 25-year-old then there would be no shortage of suitors – but the French giants are determined not to court bids for their prize attacking asset.
And Baup is well aware that if Marseille are to maintain their Ligue 1 title challenge – the club currently sit second, behind Paris Saint-Germain on goal difference – then Remy’s brilliance will be needed all season long.
"In my opinion, there is no question [of a sale]", Baup told French daily La Provence.
"He is here for the whole season."
relatedNewsStoryBaup did bemoan the number of small injury niggles which have afflicted Remy, but feels the striker is over the worst of them.
"The club have always counted on him.
"Unfortunately, he suffered several small physical problems, but the troubles are behind him.
"A lot of things are happening at the moment and his form is vital for our results, which are more important."
Remy will not doubt have a crucial role to play for Marseille if they are to truly challenge PSG for the Ligue 1 crown this season.
The 25-year-old will be expected to be Marseille’s answer to Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the goalscoring stakes.
