Newcastle United want to bring former Middlesbrough forward Jeremie Aladiere back to England, according to French sports daily L’Equipe.

Aladiere currently turns out in Ligue 1 for Lorient, but is reported to be close to a verbal agreement with Newcastle to make a switch to St. James’ Park in the winter transfer window.

Now 29 years old, Aladiere has extensive experience of English football, though looked to have finally ended his love affair with the country when he returned to his native France in the summer of 2011.

Aladiere first headed for England as a youngster, joining Arsenal, having spent time at the prestigious Clairefontaine Academy.

The striker failed to fully establish himself at the Gunners though, appearing only sporadically between 2001 and 2007, spending time on loan at Celtic, West Ham and Wolverhampton Wanderers as a result.

Aladiere moved to Middlesbrough in 2007, staying on Teeside for three years until his eventual release in 2011.

Indeed, Aladiere has found the back of the net three times in eight Ligue 1 games for Lorient so far.

He is under contract at the Stade du Moustoir until 2015.
