Jamaica have not given up hope of young Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling representing them at international level.

Sterling appears to have opted to play for England, having represented the Three Lions at Under-16, Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 level, but having not yet been capped by the senior team, is still eligible to turn out for the country of his birth if he so chooses.

Sterling sat on the bench for England’s 2014 World Cup qualifier against the Ukraine in September and, had he been given as little as one minute on the pitch by manager Roy Hodgson, the issue would have surely been closed.

But Jamaica spy a slight opportunity and will try their luck.

"Based on FIFA rules, Raheem is still eligible for us", said Jamaican FA president Horace Burrell.

"We think it is worthwhile to speak", he added.

Whether Sterling is seriously considering representing Jamaica at international level is unclear, but were he to choose to do so, it would be a big blow to England.

Sterling has broken through into the first team with Liverpool this season and attracted much praise for his progress.

He also recently scored his first senior goal, firing Liverpool to a 1-0 win over Reading at Anfield.
