Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has suffered the pain of defeat against his former club Swansea City.

Rodgers’ men were facing the Welsh club in the League Cup at Anfield, with a spot in the quarter-finals the prize for the winners.

And the Liverpool boss showed he was taking the match seriously by naming a side containing a number of experienced heads, such as Jamie Carragher, Joe Cole and Stewart Downing, while first team regulars Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Allen also featured.

After a poor first half, which saw Swansea take the lead through a header from defender Chico, Rodgers even threw on more talent, with a double substitution which brought Luis Suarez and captain Steven Gerrard into the fray.

As the clock ticked down further, Rodgers then turned to exciting young winger Raheem Sterling.

However, Swansea then made it 2-0, after Nathan Dyer found the back of the net after a counter attack.
