Veteran Manchester United star Ryan Giggs has praised a different aspect of Robin van Persie’s game – his set piece delivery.

Van Persie is better known for his ability to finish rather than set up others and in that area the Red Devils have hugely benefited this season, following the Dutchman’s summer switch from Arsenal.

So far Van Persie has hit the back of the net seven times in nine Premier League games for his new club, while he has also bulged the onion bag twice in three Champions League clashes.

However, the 29-year-old has also been an impressive provider for his team-mates, with four assists in the Premier League and one in the Champions League.

It is something Giggs has acknowledged, especially pointing out the beautiful set piece deliver of the Dutchman.

"When a ready-made, world-class player comes into the team it gives everybody a lift", the Welshman told his club’s official site.

relatedNewsStory"We’re like the supporters – we look forward to playing with and seeing quality players come into the team. Robin is certainly that – he’s proven that with his goals and all-round play since he’s come to the club.

"Robin’s set-piece delivery has been really important to us. It’s a big plus this season that we’re scoring from set-pieces and corners. That’s something we haven’t done over the last few years as often as we’d have liked.

"So with Robin it’s not just goals you get. He’s helped add more goals to the scoresheet and helped a few different names get on there."

Giggs will be hoping that Van Persie is at his best as both creator and finisher on Saturday, when the Red Devils welcome Arsenal to Old Trafford in the Premier League.

And, having been rested for Manchester United’s midweek League Cup match away at Chelsea, the Holland international should come into the match fresh and relishing the chance to shoot down his former club.
