Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is not concerned that Robin van Persie scored earlier today, helping Manchester United to down the Gunners.
Van Persie was meeting his former club for the first time and wasted no time in showing Wenger exactly what he lost in the summer, predictably having a hand in putting the Gunners to the sword at Old Trafford.
The Dutchman scored first in the 2-1 victory, putting his new side in front with only three minutes on the clock.
Wayne Rooney missed a penalty in the first half, but Patrice Evra added a second for Van Persie’s new club in a game which proved more than comfortable for the home side.
Arsenal did pull a goal back at the end, but it was little more than a consolation, coming with the final kick of the game, and also a concern was the red card given to midfielder Jack Wilshere earlier in the second half.
Van Persie scoring after leaving Arsenal for Manchester United in the summer was somewhat predictable, but Wenger insisted he was not affected by it, even though losing one of his side’s best players to domestic rivals and then seeing the effect played out in front of him must have undoubtedly hurt.
relatedNewsStory"Honestly, that doesn’t bother me at all", Wenger told his side’s official site.
"That doesn’t matter. What you want is to win the game.
"You don’t care about who scores in their team. What is most important is that you don’t make a mistake at the back and you don’t give chances away."
Following defeat this season at home to Chelsea, Arsenal’s loss at Old Trafford raises serious questions about the side’s Premier League title ambitions.
Wenger must hope his men quickly shrug off the disappointment though and focus now on what is a crucial Champions League clash against Schalke next week.
