Daniel Agger and Nicklas Bendtner are in the running for the 2012 Danish Player of the Year award.

The Liverpool defender and the Juventus striker have been named on a shortlist by the Danish Football Association (DBU), which also includes Stuttgart midfielder William Kvist and Club Brugge midfield enforcer Niki Zimling.

The winner of last year’s award, Ajax schemer Christian Eriksen, has been overlooked this year.

Agger helped Liverpool to win the English League Cup earlier this year, while he also formed a solid defensive partnership with Simon Kjaer for Denmark at Euro 2012.

Bendtner also impressed at Euro 2012, scoring a brace against Portugal in the group stage. He has since joined Italian champions Juventus on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal.

Kvist has also been in good form with Stuttgart in Germany, while Zimling is a former Danish Talent of the Year.

relatedNewsStoryShould Agger succeed in winning the award, it will be the second time he has collected it; the defender was also crowned Danish Player of the Year in 2007 after helping Liverpool into the Champions League final.

Were Bendtner to win, it would also be his second such honour, after receiving the accolade in 2009.

Bendtner is also a former Danish Talent of the Year.

The jury which selected the four on the shortlist was chosen by the DBU.
