Lille were thrashed 6-1 in the Champions League at Bayern Munich last night, leaving the French club’s goalkeeper Mickael Landreau declaring that the German giants are simply "out of this world".

Rudi Garcia’s side have endured a nightmare Champions League campaign so far and came into the clash having lost all three of their group stage games but, French champions in 2011, Lille could still not have expected the beating they got.

It took just five minutes for Bayern Munich to take the lead when Bastian Schweinsteiger opened the scoring.

The advantage was doubled by veteran striker Claudio Pizarro in the 18th minute, before Arjen Robben (23rd minute) and then a Pizarro brace to complete his hat-trick (28th and 33rd minutes) saw the two teams head in with Bayern Munich 5-0 up at the break.

Lille did score a consolation in the second period, when Salomon Kalou found the back of the net, but Toni Kroos completed the humiliation in the 65th minute, easing Bayern Munich to a 6-1 victory.

Landreau pulled no punches after the match, admitting that Lille had been outplayed, but the shot-stopper pointed out in his side’s defence that they had been beaten by a far superior team.

"I think we were a bit overwhelmed by the some of the names on the pitch", he said post-match.

"On the face of it, the scoreline is quite bad, but Bayern have been Champions League finalists in two out of the last three years.

"They are up there with the biggest five teams on the continent, especially with the squad they currently have.

"They have got world-class players in every position and when they are playing like that in front of their own fans in this great stadium, I have to admit it is very impressive."

Bayern Munich now sit top of Group F, with nine points from four games, level with Valencia. Next come BATE Borisov on six points, while Lille have zero.
