Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars has indicated that he expects big things from 18-year-old midfielder Lucas Andersen.

The Denmark Under-21 star was snapped up by Ajax on the final day of the summer transfer window, arriving from Danish outfit AaB.

He has though not yet featured for Frank de Boer’s senior Ajax side, despite being tipped for big things.

For Overmars though, that is not a surprise, with the young schemer first needing to get up to speed in Holland and then continue to work hard.

And Overmars is sure that Ajax will soon get to see the skills of Andersen.

"Lucas is young and he needs time", said the former Arsenal and Barcelona winger.

"But he’s doing really well.

"We and Lucas know what he has to work with and it would not surprise me at all if, in the course of a year, he is playing regularly for the senior side."
