Fluminense have been crowed 2012 Brazilian league champions.

The Rio de Janeiro-based club scored a 3-2 victory away at Palmeiras last night, with an 88th minute goal from Fred proving to be the winner.



With Atletico Mineiro only able to manage a draw away at Vasco da Gama, that handed Fluminense a lead of ten points with just three matches to play, an insurmountable advantage.

The title is Fluminense’s fourth, after wins in 1970, 1984 and 2010.

Fluminense had to work hard for their win at Palmeiras, with the club fighting hard against relegation.

The Fluzao boast a number of familiar names within their ranks, with striker Fred, who also serves as Fluminense captain, having had a four-year spell at Lyon between 2005 and 2009.

Vice-captain is experienced midfield schemer Deco.

In the dugout is well-travelled coach Abel Braga, who is in his second spell in charge of Fluminense.
