Ibrahim Afellay has reaffirmed his desire to return to Barcelona when his season-long loan at Schalke has finished.

The Dutch attacking midfielder was shipped out of the Camp Nou over the summer, with coach Tito Vilanova unable to give him guarantees on the amount of playing time he would receive at the Catalan giants.

Afellay though has been clear that he sees his long term future with Barcelona and is desperate to make the grade in La Liga.

And despite thoroughly enjoying his time at Schalke so far, he has once again stressed that position.

"My goal is to return to Barca", the 26-year-old told ONS Oranje.

"When I think back to my time there, I have only good memories.

"The training was great really.

"I’ve progressed not just in terms of football, but also mentally."

Afellay is receiving regular first team football at Schalke, having made ten appearances in the Bundesliga so far this season.

He has also found the back of the net twice and has formed a good understanding with countryman Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

The Dutchman joined Barcelona in the 2011 January transfer window, but cruelly suffered a serious knee ligament injury in the summer that same year.

As a result he missed almost the entire 2011/12 campaign.
