Holland and Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar does not believe he has yet hit the heights of last season.

In the previous campaign Huntelaar netted an astonishing 48 goals in 48 games in all competitions for Schalke and also finished as the top scorer in the Bundesliga.

While he endured a disappointing Euro 2012, watching Robin van Persie regularly get the vote ahead of him, he has shown potency back at club level this season, including scoring in both Schalke’s Champions League games against Arsenal recently.

But Huntelaar, who stands on three goals in eleven Bundesliga games so far, as opposed to four in four in the Champions League, wants more.

And he fully accepts that he was substituted in the second half of Schalke’s 2-1 win over Werder Bremen last weekend.

"I wasn’t at my level. Then you know you can be substituted", he told German TV channel Sport1.

"The Champions League is a little easier this season. Why is that? It’s hard to say. I think as a team we have played better in the Champions League.

Huntelaar also explained that he may be missing Spanish forward Raul, who departed in the summer.

"I think it is a little bit down to the departure of Raul, more of a second striker.

"With him you often had one-on-one situations, now it is often two-on-one."

Nevertheless, Huntelaar is determined to improve.

"I have not reached the level of last year.

"There is much work I have to do in the future."
