England Under-21 forward Wilfried Zaha has explained that his side were purely unlucky to not record a good result against Israel Under-21s in the European Under-21 Championship yesterday.

Stuart Pearce’s side lost the game 1-0, and in the process lost all the three matches in the tournament. The Young Lions have finished at the bottom of Group A, and they have scored just one goal out of the three matches – a penalty from West Brom defender Craig Dawson against Norway Under-21s.

Zaha, who will be playing for English Premier League heavyweights Manchester United in the 2013/14 season, believes that his team’s inability to play well in the attacking third has been a problem throughout the tournament.

“To be honest, I think we were just unlucky today. We did all the right things really but never did it in the right place, the final third”, the 20-year-old told UEFA.

“That’s the only problem we have and that’s the problem we had throughout the whole tournament really. We should have just taken our chances and it would have made a difference throughout the tournament.”

The hosts are also knocked out of the tournament despite the win. They finished third in the group, trailing by just a point against Norway Under-21s.

However, Israel Under-21 head coach Guy Luzon is elated after signing-off their campaign on a winning note. He has also hailed his side for staying united and defeating England.

“England are a national team with a lot of quality players and a lot of talent. But Israel were united and organised and because of that they couldn’t beat us.

“England are a great team and it’s a great honour for us to beat them in this tournament”, Luzon added.
