Massimo Ambrosini has begun talks with Premier League side West Ham over a transfer after turning down the chance to renew his contract at AC Milan.

The 36-year-old was confirmed to have rejected an extension to his contract last night, and having had offers from West Ham before, appears keen to try a foreign challenge.

Ambrosini was expected to consider the opportunity to play in Major League Soccer in the United States, to follow in the footsteps of compatriots Carlo Cudicini, formerly of Chelsea, and his ex-Milan team-mate Alessandro Nesta.

However, his agent has since rejected the notion of Ambrosini playing in the US, whilst he has not closed the door entirely on a transfer to another Serie A club.

His agent Moreno Roggi told Calcio Mercato: "Massimo wants to [leave Milan]. There are some negotiations going on and we are evaluating all offers.

"His priority is a foreign club, but should an offer come from an Italian club, we will not ignore it.

"Currently we are negotiating with West Ham, while we have ruled out a move to Major League Soccer."

Ambrosini has been one of Milan’s longest serving players, having moved to the San Siro in 1995, and boasts an incredible 444 appearances in all competitions for them.
