Brazil legend Pele believes that the Selecao are in a “generational hollow” at the moment, and has tipped Germany and Spain as the two best teams on the international scene.
Brazil have slumped down to 22nd in the FIFA World Rankings – their lowest ever placing.
Luiz Felipe Scolari’s side played their last match against France in an international friendly in Porto Alegre last Sunday, and the five-time world champions won 3-0.
The 2014 World Cup hosts kick-off the Confederations Cup on Saturday, and they are grouped alongwith Italy, Mexico, and Japan – the first team to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

Although Pele, who lifted three World Cup trophies with Brazil in 1958, 1962, and 1970, believes that there is a dip in the form of the side presently, he still hopes that they can lift the World Cup for the sixth time next summer.
“We have good players like Lucas [Moura] and Neymar, but we are in a generational hollow”, the 72-year-old told France Football.
“However I hope we can get the World Cup next year. Germany and Spain are the two best teams", he added.
Former skipper and right-back Cafu, who won the World Cup with the Selecao in 1994 and 2002, seconds Pele’s views, and insists that Brazil are prepared for the Confederations Cup, but not for the World Cup.
"Brazil has a very good team for the Confederations Cup, but they are not prepared for the World Cup", he added.
