Chelsea have secured the signing of forward Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen.

Schurrle’s agent insisted only hours ago that he felt a deal for his client to land at Stamford Bridge would be tied up within the coming days – and now it is done.

Chelsea have, according to German sports magazine Kicker, paid €23m to sign Schurrle from Leverkusen, with the player himself penning a five-year contract worth €4.8m per year.

Schurrle’s former club Mainz will receive a 30% cut of the transfer fee above €10m, leaving Leverkusen with around €19m flowing into their coffers.

Leverkusen have been waiting to secure South Korea forward Son Heung-Min as Schurrle’s replacement before giving the green light to the deal.

And the transfer for the Hamburg forward is now done, with Son already having passed his medical tests at the BayArena.

Schurrle can now head to Chelsea to start his new adventure in English football, leaving Leverkusen satisfied at having secured a replacement and Mainz delighted at a cash boost in good time for the summer transfer window.
