New Leeds United signing Matt Smith has explained that he is very dedicated, hard-working, and is hungry to play for the Yorkshire giants.

The 24-year-old English striker was snapped up by the Peacocks on a two-year deal this week from League One side Oldham Athletic.

Smith will arrive at Elland Road on 1st July, after his contract at Boundary Park expires at the end of this month. He has insisted that he wants to play regularly, despite knowing that Leeds United have a strong squad and there is competition all over the pitch.

"I’m very dedicated and hard-working and obviously I want to play”, he told BBC Radio Leeds.

"But I’m not misguided, I know it’s a very strong squad with competition all over the pitch.

"I have to knuckle down and work extra hard – as I did at Oldham – and try and force myself into the team”, Smith added.

The Birmingham-born goal-poacher scored 14 goals out of 75 games for the Latics after joining them from Solihull Moors in the summer of 2011.

He earned recognition after scoring two goals for Oldham Athletic against Merseyside giants Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Cup on 27th January this year, and helping his side in registering a 3-2 win.

He also continued scoring against Everton in the following round, and subsequently scored four times out of four FA Cup appearances this term.
