Ligue 1 side Marseille are closing in on Sporting Lisbon left winger Diego Capel, with Marseille assistant manager Franck Passi confirming their interest in the Spaniard.
Capel, 25, made a good showing of himself on the pitch during the 2012/13 campaign, scoring five goals and notching five assists for the Portuguese giants.
Merseyside heavyweights Liverpool are believed to have Capel in their viewfinder in an effort to bring in players that would suit manager Brendan Rodgers’ new style of football at Anfield.
But Marseille are keen to sabotage any transaction between the two parties as the French club look to have Capel as their player instead.

"Diego Capel is a remarkable player and I have seen him play since he was 16 years old in Sevilla’s youth ranks", Passi told Le 10 Sport.
"He’s of a profile that interests us, yes. Players who can play in the flanks, who are impactful, can dribble, pass and score – those are people we are seeking", the Marseille assistant manager added.
Capel has a contract with Lisbon until 2016.
