Benfica stalwart Nicolas Gaitan may be a hot topic on the transfer market, but has not been approached for a move to Premier League giants Arsenal contrary to reports, according to the player’s agent.

Gaitan’s signature has been sought by Manchester United and Anzhi Makhachkala, among others, as a nearly three-year stint in Portugal has seen the Argentine blossom.

The winger racked up 23 league games this season and even scored three goals, but it is understood the interest generated has not materialised into anything concrete.

When asked about the link to Arsenal, Gaitan’s agent Jose Iribarren told Portuguese daily Record: "No one has contacted me."

Gaitan has fast become an experienced campaigner in Europe, following his move from Boca Juniors in Argentina in 2010.

The 25-year-old was watched by Manchester United scouts as recently as April, even as Benfica missed out on the league title to FC Porto.

Gaitan played the full 90 minutes of Benfica’s Europa League final clash last month, but the club missed out on further silverware when they were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea.
