Leeds United first team coach Neil Redfearn believes that the club have appointed a tactically astute boss in Brian McDermott.

The former Reading manager succeeded Neil Warnock at Elland Road late last season and a wave of optimism has greeted his appointment, something which his first few games in charge only served to increase.

Redfearn is impressed with McDermott and feels Leeds have landed a top quality manager.

"I know he is an ambitious guy and tactically and technically he is aware and astute", Redfearn told his club’s official site.

"So for me as a coach working with Brian and Nigel [Gibbs, assistant manager] is the start of exciting times. Once we get things in place and up and running the supporters will be able to see that as well."

And Redfearn, who also serves as the development squad manager at Elland Road, feels sure McDermott is taking the club’s promising youngsters into consideration.

"We’ve got some talented young players here. Hopefully the future is bright but with young players you have to expose them at the right times", he said.

"With regards to the younger players I’m sure they are in Brian’s thinking."
