Exeter City face the daunting prospect of kicking off their Capital One Cup campaign for the season with the visit of Queens Park Rangers to St James Park on 5th August.

The first-round draw, released today, will see Exeter face off against Championship opposition for the second time running, having played Crystal Palace last year.

The Grecians bowed out with a 2-1 defeat then, while QPR had begun their cup run with a 3-0 win over Walsall before losing out to Reading in the third round. Exeter’s meeting with QPR in the cup will be the second since the end of last season, with a friendly scheduled for 11th July.

Last season’s runners-up Bradford City will aim to go one better but face a Yorkshire derby in the very first round when they travel to Huddersfield Town.

Bradford capped their remarkable run in 2012/13 with a final appearance, where they were beaten by Swansea City, but managed the additional triumph of promotion to League One.

Mansfield Town and Newport County, newly promoted to the Football League, also face tough opponents in their opening games, with the Stags travelling to Tranmere Rovers and County visiting Brighton.

Quarter-finalists last season, Leeds United start the 2013 edition by playing host to Chesterfield, whilst a south-coast derby will see Bournemouth and Portsmouth square off at Dean Court.
