Christian Eriksen’s move to Borussia Dortmund seemed certain until yesterday, but Monaco appear to have at last woken up in their bid to hijack the transfer, according to Dutch daily Algemeen Dagblad.
Dortmund are believed to be close to signing Eriksen, with the German club seeing him as a successor to Mario Gotze. However, Liverpool have also been linked with the Denmark international – and now Dortmund have further company.
Most quarters had expected a move to go through given movements within Holland for Eriksen’s potential replacement at Ajax, but Monaco may well launch a late approach.
Eriksen’s transfer to Dortmund was expected to yield €15m, while reports had emerged that a four-year deal was already in the pipeline.

But with Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc cooling talk that Eriksen was a priority to replace the outgoing Gotze, Monaco could well have an outside chance.
The principality club have spent well over €100m this summer on players to celebrate their return to Ligue 1, and are seemingly hungry for more.
Eriksen, has been courted by Liverpool, with AC Milan giving Serie A representation in the race for the 21-year-old too.
