Ibrox giants Rangers have secured their sixth signing of the summer – former club full-back Stevie Smith – who has agreed to join the club subject to registration.

The Scottish footballer played for the Light Blues between 2002 and 2010, before moving to Norwich City.

He also lifted the Scottish Premier League trophy with Rangers in 2009/10.

Smith’s transfer will take effect from 1st September, when the club’s transfer embargo will be lifted, and the club have announced that the 27-year-old has concluded talks to pen a two-year deal.

He has been a free agent since leaving MLS side Portland Timbers last December. He had joined the club last summer.

The former Gers youth player made a total of 64 competitive starts for the club during his first spell. His progress however was curtailed due to a long-standing pelvic problem.

Smith joins goalkeeper Cammy Bell, midfielders Nicky Law and Arnold Peralta, as well as forwards Jon Daly and Nicky Clark, at Rangers, this summer.

Ally McCoist’s side will play in the third tier of Scottish football – the Scottish Second Division – in the 2013/14 season, following promotion from the Scottish Third Division – where they finished first, last season.
