Tahiti midfielder Jonathan Tehau is delighted after having scored the only goal for his side during the FIFA Confederations Cup clash against Nigeria last night.

The Super Eagles handed a 6-1 thrashing to the 2012 OFC Nations Cup winners – who were also making their debut at a senior FIFA tournament.

The 25-year-old schemer scored for Eddy Etaeta’s side in the 54th minute of the match.

“It’s a first for our country. I’m very happy to have scored and to have made my mark on the history of Tahitian football, alongside my team-mates”, Tehau told FIFA.com.

“My mind went blank when I scored; all I could think of was celebrating it properly with my friends.”

Tehau also scored an own goal in the 69th minute of the game, but he has explained that the Tahitians are willing to forget that.

“Let’s forget that one, shall we?”, he joked.

One of the highlights of the match was the hat-trick by 22-year-old AC Milan forward Nnamdi Oduamadi, on-loan at Serie B side Varese.

The Nigerian scored in the 10th minute, the 26th minute and the 76th minute of the match.

As things stand at the moment, Nigeria have moved to the top of Group B in the tournament, ahead of second-placed Spain – owing to a better goal difference.

Team Fenua, placed at the bottom, take on world champions Spain at the Maracana Stadium on Thursday and 2011 Copa America winner Uruguay on Sunday.
