Former Roma sporting director Franco Baldini has not taken long to find work since leaving Italy, with Tottenham Hotspur announcing him as their technical director.

What had been an open secret in recent weeks was officially confirmed today via the clubs’ Twitter feed, and he will meet up with manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Baldini left Roma early in June after two years at the club when managerial uncertainty was at its highest in the capital.

Baldini is expected to be in charge of Spurs’ scouting and transfer policy, with the club heavily involved in the summer window.

Not least on his plate will be the potential departure of star man Gareth Bale, linked with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, whilst there are some arrivals in the pipeline.

Brazilian Paulinho has been lined up for a move to London, from Corinthians, whilst Fredy Guarin from Inter Milan has been doing the rounds as well.

Baldini will be well aware of the workings of the Premier League, having spent four years as one of Fabio Capello’s assistants when the Italian was in charge of the England national team.

The 52-year-old spent a year as sporting director at Real Madrid, which he left in 2007 to join Capello in England.

With Capello’s exit, Baldini had to look elsewhere as well, and joined Roma, whom he had previously served for six years – in a similar capacity – back in 1999.
