La Liga champions Barcelona are ready to offer their young defender Marc Bartra a contract as the club look to tie him down to a renewed deal before the start of the upcoming season.

Bartra, 22, is a product of La Masia, Barcelona’s well-known youth academy, which has produced a long list of football greats including Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, Paris Saint-Germain’s Thiago Motta, Liverpool’s Pepe Reina and the Catalan club’s own Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas and Jordi Alba.

Bartra broke into the first team during last season, where he notched 16 appearances, including eight league matches, for the Spanish giants.

"Bartra, in any case, will continue with Barca since he has a contract with the club. They, however, have decided to offer a new deal", Bartra’s agent, Magico Diaz, told Spanish daily El Mundo Deportivo.

"We have not yet accepted their offer but we are negotiating it", the agent added.

Diaz is also in the belief that Bartra’s long-term future will stay inside the hallowed confines of the Camp Nou. "Marc has his head in Barcelona, and the fact that the club offered an extension shows they are confident in him as well."

The 20-year-old’s current contract with Barcelona will expire in 2014.
