Everton Under-21s coach Alan Stubbs believes that new manager Roberto Martinez will give youth players at the club a chance to feature in the senior team.

The former Wigan Athletic boss has hailed the club’s youth academy and explained that the talent of the youngsters must be nurtured. The Spaniard had also insisted that he was is on promoting some of the promising starlets to the Toffees first team.

Stubbs has pointed out that Martinez did exactly the same thing at Wigan, and has stated that the new boss will have plenty of promising youth players to chose from.

“I’m sure he is someone who will give youth the chance because he showed that when he was at Wigan”, Stubbs told his club’s official site.

“Coming from Wigan to Everton, he’ll have more – and better – young players at his disposal, which he can use in training and in games if he needs that.

“It’s a great opportunity for the younger lads to impress the new manager and give him a reason to start them.”

Stubbs is also encouraging the youngsters at the club to show their mettle in front of Martinez, from the start of pre-season training.

“When a new manager comes in there is a fresh challenge and, if you didn’t get many chances with the last manager, it’s a chance to impress and say to the new manager, ‘I’m ready’.

“If they get an opportunity then it’s up to them because that’s what football is all about. It’s about taking opportunities and what you do with them”, Stubbs added.

The Toffees kick-off their new Premier League season with a clash against Norwich City at Carrow Road on 17th August.

Martinez’s first home game as the new Everton manager is against West Brom on 24th August.
