Arsenal left-back Nacho Monreal has explained that the club are working hard on summer signings that can help to end an eight-year trophy drought next season.

The Gunners have failed to collect silverware since winning the FA Cup in 2005 and, as a result, have seen a number of star players head for pastures new, with a particular blow being the loss of Robin van Persie to Manchester United last summer.

Arsene Wenger’s men have been tipped to spend big this summer to turn the tide on their trophy fortunes.

And Monreal has explained the Gunners are trying to get a number of signings over the line.

"Arsenal are one of the biggest teams in England", he told Spanish daily Marca.

"It is true that it has been eight years without a title and that is a thorn in the side. This year they are working and want to make good signings that break that streak.

"Arsenal are a winning club and hopefully will get that title."

Monreal himself only joined Arsenal in the January transfer window, having made the switch from La Liga outfit Malaga.
