Newly promoted English side Doncaster Rovers have snapped up former Real Madrid B schemer Marc De Val Fernandez on a two-year deal.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder becomes the first signing for new manager Paul Dickov.

The Rovers clinched promotion to the second tier of English football last season after finishing their campaign as the leaders in League One. They led second-placed Bournemouth by just a point.

Dickov, who was appointed as the manager of the Championship side last month, poured praise on his new signing, and he believes that the Spaniard has the potential to become a top player.

"He’s good on the ball, as you would expect playing for a club like Real Madrid, but he’s not afraid to stick his foot in either”, Dickov told BBC Radio Sheffield.

“He has the potential to be a top, top player."

The Scottish boss also announced that he will be joined by former Manchester City manager Brian Horton as his new assistant at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Meanwhile Paul Gerrard will take charge as the new goalkeeping coach of the club, succeeding Lee Butler. Gerrard worked with Dickov during their time at Oldham Athletic, between 2010 and 2013.
