Monaco are eyeing a move for former Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid defender Lassana Diarra, currently playing for Anzhi Makhachkala, with a €12m offer being considered, according to Russian daily Izvestia.

The Frenchman joined Anzhi in 2012 after more than three years with Real Madrid, but a knee injury restricted him to just 14 appearances in the Russian Premier League.

Nevertheless, he is understood to have caught the attention of big-spenders Monaco, who seem ready to spend the required amount to bring him back to France.

However, Anzhi, coached by Guus Hiddink, are not keen on selling the 28-year-old, with club chairman Konstantin Remchukov eyeing a bright future for him in Russia.

"Lassana Diarra is a leader in spirit, a major figure in human terms, and will be a key player for Aznhi in the coming years", Remchukov was quoted by Izvestia as saying.

Diarra is a product of the famed Le Havre academy in France, while he made the move to England when Chelsea came calling in 2005 for the chance to play under Jose Mourinho.

He was sold to Arsenal two years later, but only managed half a season before leaving for Portsmouth, where his 32 games and three goals brought Real Madrid to the fore in 2009.

The Frenchman spent three-and-a-half seasons with Los Blancos, clocking up 116 games in the process and was eventually sold to Anzhi for €5m, 15 less than what Real Madrid paid for him.
