Bayern Munich have produced a new twist to the saga surrounding striker Mario Gomez’s potential departure, by stating that the club are yet to be approached with an offer for the player.

Manchester City, Juventus, Napoli and Fiorentina and Atletico Madrid are all in the hunt for Gomez, scorer of a brace in Bayern Munich’s DFB Pokal final victory over Stuttgart this season.

While he lost his regular place to Mario Mandzukic last season, he still managed 21 appearances in the Bundesliga – 12 as a substitute – and scored 11 goals.

Reports of a deal with Fiorentina were rubbished by his agent, even though he is largely understood to be on his way out.

However, Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge insisted the 27-year-old is expected for pre-season training under new manager Pep Guardiola, who was unveiled today.

"Yes, there have been rumours [about Gomez]", Rummenigge told reporters at the press conference to present Guardiola.

"He will be training with the team as per normal from Wednesday onwards (the start of pre-season training).

"As of today, there has been no official enquiry so Mario Gomez will start training on Wednesday and then we will see what happens."

Gomez, who moved to Bayern Munich in 2009 from Stuttgart, has a contract that ties him at the Allianz Arena until 2016.

His international career has seen him earn a total 58 caps for Germany, with the striker scoring 25 goals along the way.
