New Bayern Munich head coach Pep Guardiola has insisted that out-of-favour striker Mario Gomez has every chance of playing come next season.
Gomez was evidently not a main feature in Jupp Heynckes’ first team plans during the 2012/13 campaign, when the Germany international only made a total nine league starts throughout the whole season – although he was still able to knock in 11 league goals.
But despite having an eye for goal, Bayern Munich’s liking for Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski indicate the 27-year-old could be surplus to requirements.
Such news can only be good for Serie A champions Juventus and FA Cup finalists Manchester City, who are both tipped to be interested in luring the centre-forward to their respective home grounds.

But the clear favourites remain Serie A side Fiorentina, who have been incessantly linked with a swoop for Gomez in the past months, with a deal said to already be on course, prompting the player’s agent to deny such claims.
Guardiola, for his part, is keen to see what Gomez can bring to the 2013/14 Bayern Munich team, telling German daily Bild, "[A player’s transfer] is a matter for [sporting director] Matthias Sammer and [CEO] Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
"But now he is a Bayern Munich player and everyone has a chance."
