Ligue 1 side Marseille are inching ever so closer to signing Lille winger Dimitri Payet by having a bid in excess of €10m accepted, according to French daily La Voix du Nord.

Payet, 26, has certainly turned more than a few heads with his performances during the 2012/13 campaign. Indeed, the French left winger managed to conjure a total thirty league goals (12 scored, 18 assisted) for Lille, helping the club secure a top-half finish in Ligue 1.



Such displays at the Stade Grande Lille Metropole are believed to have attracted interest from Premier League stalwarts Arsenal, who have been credited with pondering a swoop for the French international.

But the favourites remain fellow Ligue 1 side Marseille – as it stands, they may well get their man as their bid for Payet, an initial €8.8m followed by a €1.2m "bonus", has been accepted by Lille, with formalities the only thing left for a formal announcement to be made.

And while Payet’s move to the Stade Velodrome is becoming all the more certain, a failure to finalise the deal would see the player remain with Lille until 2015, as per his ongoing contract with his current club.

Payet has a total five caps for France under his belt.
