Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp is urging the club to spend even more in order to realise the ambition of promotion at the first go.

Redknapp, who has denied reports he will quit Loftus Road following relegation to the Championship, is currently preparing for QPR’s pre-season tour to the Devon coast.

The club are due to play a friendly next month against Exeter City, whom they will also face in the first round of the Capital One Cup in August.

QPR have, in recent years, gained a reputation for not being able to deliver despite splashing a lot of money in transfers, including that of Loic Remy from Marseille in January.

The financial aspects of QPR’s seasons were also laid bare when Mark Hughes and Neil Warnock were unable to produce results despite having a lot of backing from the club’s coffers.

Redknapp, meanwhile, is wary of the club’s task but insists the tried and tested method of bringing fresh talent will be key to their Championship season.

He told the club’s official site: "Pre-season is all about bedding people in and getting a good group of lads together.

“If we can get one or two in who are the right types of people, the right types of character – that will be key for us.

“I’ve been watching some of the old Lions videos in the last few weeks. When you see the togetherness and the spirit in those teams – that’s what produces successful teams."

QPR’s Premier League season had not been much to write home about, as they finished bottom of the table with just 25 points from 38 games.

And despite reports that he was set to leave the club after less than a season, Redknapp insists he is fully committed to the Rs cause.

“If we can get the right players in, we’ll be bang in it, that’s for sure", the former Tottenham Hotspur boss added. "I’m looking forward to it. I want to get promoted for sure, to get back in the Premier League."
