Juventus will be hoping Carlos Tevez has brought his prolific goal-scoring boots with him from Manchester, as the striker joins a club he claims had been on his mind since 2011.

The Argentine was today officially unveiled as a Juventus player, following a long summer of speculation, and a three-year deal has brought the forward from Manchester City.

Even if he has enjoyed a somewhat fractious relationship with fans and managers alike during his time in England, he was a terror for defences, having shared the golden boot award with Dimitar Berbatov in 2010/11.

However, it appears Tevez had been thinking about a move to Italy long before his public falling out with ex-boss Roberto Mancini, and before he won a Premier League winners’ medal with Manchester City.

While he was been linked with a host of clubs – including Real Madrid – this summer, Tevez revealed it had been Juventus and arch rivals AC Milan that were courting him the most two years ago.

At his first press conference, Tevez explained: "I want to be very clear and honest. I spoke to [Milan CEO Adriano] Galliani only a few times. The most recent was last year, when there was the intention to bring me to Milan.

"However, the truth is that today I’m here and that’s the important thing. I’m very happy to be here.

"I took the decision to come to Juve a long time ago. In 2011, it wasn’t possible, but now they were the only club who seriously tried to sign me."

How much of that early decision influenced his thinking when frozen out of Manchester City – now coached by Manuel Pellegrini – only he knows, but Tevez could not resist a final dig at his former employers.

Manchester City boast much less title pedigree than Juventus, but have emerged as a major force in recent years, culminating in the 2011/12 league-winning season.

But Tevez added: "I spoke with Pellegrini and I told him I wanted to leave. He understood my wish. The targets of Juventus are higher than those of Manchester City."
