Everton have rejected a bid of £12m from Manchester United for left-back Leighton Baines, according to the BBC.
Former Toffees manager David Moyes, now in charge at Old Trafford, is believed to have made signing Baines one of his main pieces of summer business and must now work hard to convince Everton to sell.
The Red Devils are expected to return with an increased offer for the 28-year-old, who flourished under Moyes last season.
Manchester United’s bid for Baines puts a question mark over the future of the club’s current left-back Patrice Evra.

However, it remains to be seen if Moyes will be successful in his pursuit of Baines.
Everton are determined not to sell the defender and the club’s new manager Roberto Martinez wants to keep the England international.
Baines may choose to push for a switch though, which would swing the odds in Manchester United’s favour.
