Belgian club Genk have extended the contract of their present manager Mario Been until 2016, according to Belgian daily Het Laatste Nieuws.

The 49-year-old took charge of the club on 30th August 2011 succeeding Franky Vercauteren and helped his side to win the Belgian Cup last season.

Genk finished third in the main regular Belgian Jupiler League behind Anderlecht and Zulte-Waregem but were stranded in a disappointing fifth spot after the championship playoffs and managed to win just a solitary game from their final six matches.

It has not been long since the president of Genk is believed to have referred to Been’s financial claims as too excessive.
