Leeds United will look to act quickly upon vice-chairman Salah Nooruddin’s promise to make "sensible additions" to their squad, as manager Brian McDermott revealed a signing was imminent.

The Whites are aiming for another promotion push this season as the last one fell by the wayside after January, with just five wins out of 18 games leaving them in 13th place.

McDermott has already seen the arrival of forward Matt Smith from Oldham, and the former Reading boss is hopeful a verbal agreement over an undisclosed target will prove fruitful.

He told the club’s official site: "I’ve got a verbal agreement with one player which will happen next week. As far as I’m concerned that agreement is a deal so that will be done."

Nooruddin has vowed to get Leeds back up among the top half of the table with some new signings, as the club aim for a long-term development.

McDermott is expected to use his contacts from Reading and elsewhere to procure fresh players, and one of those names doing the rounds is Noel Hunt, who could join next week according to the BBC.

Irishman Hunt is currently a free agent, having been released by the Royals at the end of his contract this summer.

The 30-year-old striker had thrived under McDermott’s reign as manager, clocking 107 appearances and scoring 24 goals during his five years at the club.

He has gained experience of Scottish football as well, having turned out for Dundee United and Dunfermline during a five-year spell in Scotland.
