Queens Park Rangers have announced that Djibril Cisse has left the club, just hours after the striker had reportedly called Montpellier president Loulou Nicollin an "idiot" for his unwillingness to effect a transfer.

Cisse has been gunning for a Montpellier move this summer, having played the second half of the season on loan at Qatari club Al-Gharafa SC, while his contract at QPR still had a year left.

QPR today made the announcement via their Twitter feed, adding that the decision had been made by "mutual consent".

While Nicollin had previously indicated he would leave the "risky" decision to buy Cisse to his coaching staff, he had since revealed he was not interested in making a signing as expensive as the Frenchman.

And Cisse took to his Twitter account in the early hours of Friday to express his anger, writing: "Thank you for the support but I feel sorry for the fans and players of [Montpellier].

"Having a president like that must not be easy. What a pity that it does not make for a nice club when Montpellier is a beautiful city, but they have an idiot president."

And Nicollin has hit back again, by reiterating his position on the former Liverpool, Sunderland, Marseille and Auxerre player.

"In life, you should never say that somebody will not come", he told a press conference. "But I did not want to pay a DJ [for a French night club] as expensive as him. We will not commit follies."

Cisse had joined QPR from Serie A side Lazio in last year’s January transfer window, but was sent out on loan early this year to Qatar.

In all, he made 29 appearances for the Loftus Road outfit, scoring 10 goals, with the club eventually succumbing to relegation.
