Bayer Leverkusen coach Sami Hyypia has explained that he hopes a defensive reinforcement arrives at the club soon.
The Bundesliga outfit have held talks with Ajax defender Toby Alderweireld, however they did not run smoothly, with Leverkusen unhappy at the Dutch side’s asking price and the player himself less than satisfied with the wages on offer.
Alderweireld, who has also been linked with Hyypia’s old club Liverpool, may still arrive at the BayArena – but regardless the club’s coach has emphasised his need for defensive and other additions.
"I hope that we can strengthen the squad", the Finnish tactician was quoted as saying by Kicker.

"It is clear that some need to come within a few weeks.
"Defence is important, but if we can get a good attacker we won’t let that slip."
Leverkusen managed a third place finish in the Bundesliga last season, granting the side a Champions League ticket.
Hyypia’s men have already lost Andre Schurrle to Chelsea this summer, although they did snap up South Korean starlet Son Heung-Min from Hamburg as a replacement of sorts.
