Celtic skipper Scott Brown is delighted with the new additions to the team this summer, adding that having some tall players was something the Scottish champions have missed.

The Hoops have snapped up Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk, as well as Portuguese forward Amido Balde this summer. Both players stand at 6ft 4inches.

Brown met with the pair at the club’s Lennoxtown training centre, and he explained that they have been lively in their training sessions.

"The new lads seem friendly and it´s good to have them in", the 28-year-old told his club’s official site.

"Look at the size of them! It’s good to have some height in the team, we’ve maybe missed that.

"They seem lively around the training ground and that´s the main thing. There are a lot of games before the [Champions League] qualifiers so that will help us get used to how they play."

The Celts have been pitted against Northern Irish side Cliftonville in the second round of Champions League qualifying next month.

Looking ahead to the clash, the Scotland international terms the match as a huge one, and he urges the squad to get fit and ready.

"The Cliftonville tie is going to be huge. It will be two good games and we have to try and get everyone fit and ready. It will be hard with some players still away on international duty.

"It´s hard to get everyone back into the squad on time but I´m sure the gaffer will do that. It will help us for the start of the season as well but it will be hard and we just have to get through it”, Brown added.

Following a request from the Belfast outfit, the Celts, under Neil Lennon, will play their first leg of the match at Solitude on 17th July. The return leg will be at Celtic Park on 23rd July.
