Veteran Napoli right winger Christian Maggio has promised the club’s fans he will do his best to convince hotly-chased Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani to stay at the Stadio San Paolo.
Cavani has been a hot topic in recent months as his future with the Serie A side continues to hang in the balance.
2013 Europa League champions Chelsea are believed to be in pole position to sign the prolific striker, although the player’s agent has denied any prospect of a done deal with the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Cavani’s relatives have been stirring speculation left and right throughout the saga as well, claiming that their popular kin is close to signing with either 2012/13 La Liga runners-up Real Madrid or Eastlands giants Manchester City – the striker has already rubbished those claims.

But the rumours keep piling up, and with it the uncertainty that is etched in the minds of the club’s fans, something Maggio has taken to himself to address.
"[Cavani’s] transfer? I will convince him to stay in Naples", Maggio told Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport.
"It’ll be a pleasure. I have always had a good relationship with him", the 31-year-old added.
Cavani has a contract with Napoli that will see him ply his trade at the Stadio San Paolo until the end of the 2016/17 campaign. As to whether he completes that duration, it remains to be seen.
