Former Bundesliga veteran Halil Altintop will be making his return to the league once again thanks to a two-year deal with FC Augsburg that secured his move away from Trabzonspor.

The 30-year-old striker spent two seasons in Turkey after moving from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2011, that marked the end of 11 years as a senior professional within Germany.

The Turkey international, who was born in Gelsenkirchen, had turned out for SG Wattenscheid, Kaiserslautern as well as Schalke before his transfer to Frankfurt.

His biggest successes in Germany came with Schalke as the team narrowly missed out on the Bundesliga titles in 2006/07 and 2009/10, while he also gained Champions League and Europa League experiences.

His contract with Augsburg will see him play until 2015, and he told the club’s official site: "It’s nice to be able to return to Germany and the Bundesliga. So I’m looking forward to the time at FC Augsburg."

Altintop has been given the number seven jersey, with Augsburg coach Mark Weinzierl saying: "Halil Altintop has proven his qualities in the league with more than 200 games and 47 goals.

"I am glad that we get with him an experienced attacking player who can promote our team not only by his sporting abilities, but also by his leadership."
