Brazil skipper and Paris Saint-Germain defensive rock Thiago Silva has revealed that Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova asked him to join the Spanish club last season.

The 28-year-old centre-back, who lifted his first major honour with his national side following Brazil’s win against Spain in the final of the FIFA Confederations Cup last night, said that the Barcelona boss invited him during PSG’s Champions League encounter with the Spanish side in the quarter-finals of the competition last season.

"Tito is a great coach, and a guy I admire”, Silva was quoted as saying by Spanish daily Marca.

“In the PSG-Barcelona match in the Champions League, I had a brief chat with him and he invited me to play with them.”

Silva joined Les Parisiens from Serie A giants AC Milan last summer on a five-year deal for a fee of €42m.

He has been heavily linked with the Catalan giants this summer, who are looking to boost their defence. However, the player has insisted that he is happy at the Paris outfit, and it is difficult for him to exit the club.

"There is nothing on negotiations. I want to remain calm and want to enjoy my vacation.

“In football you never know, but I’m happy at PSG, I’m very quiet, I speak daily with the president, it is very difficult to get out of there", he said.

Silva also hopes the uncertainty about his future with the French giants will soon be resolved.

"It is difficult, unlike last year when Milan wanted to sell. Now PSG do not want to sell, so it is a very different situation.

“Hopefully that will be resolved as soon as possible to end this uncertainty.”

The Brazilian clocked up 34 appearances under former manager Carlo Ancelotti at the club last season.
