Saint-Etienne striker and Newcastle target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is set to fly out to Germany to sign a contract with Borussia Dortmund, according to Sky Italia.

Dortmund were understood to have sent a representative to Saint-Etienne to discuss a possible transfer for Aubameyang, who has been a hot property this summer.

Newcastle had been joined by league rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in the race for Aubameyang, who has three years left on his Saint-Etienne contract.

Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen were also hot on his heels, but it appears Dortmund have succeeded in their efforts, having already tabled a €14m offer for the 24-year-old.

And it is understood that the Bundesliga giants will be securing their priority target on a €15m deal, an agreement for which was reached last night.

Aubameyang, who scored 19 goals and made 14 assists in 37 Ligue 1 games for Saint-Etienne, has been a force to reckon with as he almost singlehandedly boosted the club’s European cause.

They eventually secured Europa League qualification thanks to victory in the Coupe de la Ligue, but Aubameyang can now expect to enjoy the delights of the Champions League football with Dortmund finishing second in the Bundesliga.

If successful, Dortmund will be pleased to have secured a replacement for Mario Gotze, who was today officially unveiled as a Bayern Munich player.
